ProSeminar in Civic Entrepreneurship: CIC2020
During my senior year at Binghamton University, I was involved in Catalyst for Intellectual Capital, CIC2020, a student-run economic development think tank at Binghamton University. The program aims to reverse the "brain drain" of Greater Binghamton by working to increase the retention rate to 20% of Binghamton University graduates in the local area by the year 2020. CIC2020 is an independent student-led group. It is not a chartered member of the Binghamton University Student Association. The program is comprised of 5-15 student leaders. Recruitment for the CIC2020 directorate and the leadership course both entail a selective application and interviewing process.
This program has helped me in more ways than I had anticipated. I got the opportunity to view Binghamton in a different light. I was taken out of my little bubble on campus and was immersed in the community. I met and networked with many significant people, CEOs of large companies based in Binghamton, community leaders, Binghamton University leaders, Senator Gilibrand, etc.

Honors Thesis: "Feasibility of Online Grocery Shopping and Delivery in Manhattan: A Geospatial Marketing Analysis"
I had never anticipated writing an honors thesis at any point during my college career nor did I believe I was capable of writing such an extensive research project. However, my professor/Director of the Geography Department strongly believed I had the ability to tackle this project and encouraged me to do so. I am happy to have completed a piece of work that I am proud to present and which accumulates everything I have learned in my concentration.
I have lived in the suburbs my entire life. Grocery shopping had never been much of a hassle because of the ability to drive my car to the grocery store. My thesis is a study of the feasibility of online grocery shopping and delivery services such as Fresh Direct and Peapod, in Manhattan. I delved into the history of grocery stores, discovered the variables that affect grocery shopping behavior and experience, researched the target consumer and consumption, the evolution of internet shopping and delivery, retail location, demographics of online shoppers, warehousing, and truck routing. I created various maps with GIS to portray specific demographics, the distribution of grocery stores in Manhattan, and cost effective truck routes throughout Manhattan to various warehousing sites.
